‘Going for Green’ – Europa wins leading environmental award for second year

25 August 2011

The company has been notified that it is among the major winners in the 2011 Green Apple Environment Awards – one of the few accredited feeder schemes into the international campaign.

Europa has won an Environmental Best Practice award for their ‘Small Green Steps’ internal communications programme which helped staff become more aware of their shared responsibilities towards environmental improvements.  The company also won an award for Climate Change Benefits for their partnership with client Thurrock Council to reduce costs and carbon emissions, a project expected to save over £15,000 a year.

Europa also won three Green Apple Awards in 2010; two of these were Gold Awards for waste management at their client Capital Shopping Centre’s Chapelfield site and the other for furniture management for client Lloyds Banking Group.

Receipt of these awards saw Europa invited to join the International Green Heroes, an elite group of environmental achievers who use their experience to help thousands of others – and the environment – around the world.

They will be presented with their Green Apple Awards at the House of Commons later this year, when top winners have the chance to represent their country in the Brussels event.

Europa’s client, Cllr John Kent (Thurrock Council Leader) comments: “We’re really pleased to share this success with Europa. Winning this award highlights our joint commitment to achieving long-term energy savings.  It’s an excellent example of how a hard-working, innovative partnership can deliver real benefits.”

The Green Apple Awards began in 1994 and attracted more than 500 nominations this year.  They are organised by The Green Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-profit environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
