Since we first collated our company carbon footprint in 2004 we have sought to offset this by ensuring that Europa’s green house gas emissions are offset and that we continually seek to manage down our emissions. Over the years we have adopted a number of different strategies to do this ranging from tree planting and giving away free energy efficient light bulbs. In 2008 we changed our approach again and working with the campaign organisation Sandbag, we set out to purchase and decommission the equivalent number of European Emission Trading Systems (ETS) certificates.
In 2009 Europa continued to take part in the Mayday network event hosted by HRH Prince of Wales, which has been set up to provide business in the UK with focus to develop a low carbon economy. Europa reported back to the network on its progress and has set itself challenges for carbon reduction over the next twelve months. We are also seeking to help our clients replicate this and to ensure that they can achieve good results under the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC).
By working with our staff and building landlords, we are educating our staff on the carbon dioxide emitted both during their working hours and at home. Through 2010 this will continue with efforts made to identify all opportunities to develop education opportunities and to drive CO2 reductions.
